My journey began when my twin boys were born at 28 weeks gestation. Arriving at just 2 pounds 2 ounces and 2 pounds 12 ounces, they were admitted to the NICU immediately and stayed for 4 months. I had 2 babies hospitalized 30 miles from home, a 7, 5 and 3 year old needing their mom, as well as a husband who had a high stress, full time job. Life was absolutely overwhelming. I quit my job immediately to focus on the health and needs of the family. When the Twins came home they required; special medications, 24 hour oxygen, medication and monitoring alarms. This was then coupled with developmental delays that needed to be worked with for the next 5 years. Financially, it was the year we almost lost everything. My marriage saw struggles we had never had before. The mom guilt for my older kids came at me from all directions. When I finally thought we were coming up for some air, it was confirmed that our 5 year old son was struggling with autism and was in need of a lot more help and support then what he was receiving. In all this conflict, I began to realize something I just could not ignore….
The next 10 years I dove headfirst into developing resources that would help. I learned several ways to help support my family by creating income opportunities and a flexible work schedule. I was able to be the biggest influence and force for the support systems for my children’s needs. I studied more effective parenting skills, learned better communication, and built a better connection with my kids. I have learned how to create a more peaceful and balanced home for myself and the whole family.
In my continuing search for positive parenting, I connected with the Jai Institute. I was so impressed by their coach training for better connection, empathy and communication with your child, that I knew I had to share it with as many parents as I could. I have completed many different trainings through all this, but the Parent Coach training I received from Jai made me the well-rounded coach I am today.
All parents go through emotions and struggles, kids don’t always listen, and they like to talk back. Sometimes your just plain tired from working all day. The truth is, it does not matter the level of stress you have in your life, I can teach you the skills for calming emotions, and parenting without putting your frustration and anger onto your children. Yes, this is entirely possible! Even in stressful times.
