Hi! I’m Laura, mom of Five amazing kiddos, and I have struggled, just like you have, with the feeling overwhelm, frustration and anger that comes from being an over worked and over whelmed parent.
Let me share with you how I became a parent coach.
My oldest daughter has always been a smart, quick witted and high energy child. She was colicky, irritable and unable to settle herself unless she was nursing. Soon, I became involved with a support group for nursing moms. It was from this group that I bloomed into leadership of this support group and continued on to become certified to teach the benefits of breastfeeding to new parents and help moms that were having struggles with weight gain, latch and supply issues.
During this time I had my 2nd and 3rd child and soon found out my 2nd child was on the Autism Spectrum. I found grants and other resources, and information to help me as a parent of a child with autism, and to help my son get the support he needed as well. I recently completed my certification in order to be able to help other parents with resources and support for these wonderful and amazing kiddos.
However, it was when my twin boys were born at just 28 weeks gestation, arriving at a mere 2 pounds 2 ounces and 2 pounds 12 ounces, that I really started struggling with mom guilt and anger. I felt absolutely overwhelmed with life and the stress and little to no help from outside was exhausting!
This began my search to find a better way to parent.
I wanted to be a parent with compassion but also raise kids with critical thinking and awareness of how they were treating others as well. I studied how to parent with love and common sense. I felt pretty good about my parenting and how our young family was connecting. But soon I realized I was really parenting through a combination of Authoritarian parenting combined with some Authoritative parenting. The Authoritarian power parenting was not working well as my kids hit their exploratory preteen years and started testing the waters for independence. Life turned into arguments with a head strong, highly intelligent first born who could quickly out wit and challenged her parents words and rules.
I hated how every day ended with an argument with my kids! I was just beginning this journey through teenage years with five children and I wanted to put them on the road for success, not just teach them how to power their way through life by yelling at them to be better! I wanted them to be able to make good decisions, be respectful to others, and to also think for themselves with the ability to voice their opinions intelligently and productively! Yelling and fighting was not showing them any of this!
I soon connected with the Jai Institute for parenting. I was so impressed by their tools for empathy, emotional intelligence training and non-violent communication. I immediately sign up to learn their tools for conscious parenting. It was absolutely everything I needed and more! I was able created a peaceful home with TEENAGERS in it! Yes you read that right.
A balanced peaceful home with connection and communication, for myself and the whole family.
I knew I HAD to share it with as many parents as I could. I jumped in with both feet and completed their Parent Coach Certification! I have many certificates, degrees and trainings under my belt over the years, but the Parent Coach training and certification I received from Jai has filled my toolbox with all the tools I will ever need to be the well-rounded coach and parent I am today. And now I can teach you to become the peaceful parent you long to be!
All parents go through emotions and struggles, kids don’t always listen, and they like to talk back. Sometimes you’re just plain tired from working all day. The truth is, it does not matter the level of stress you have in your life, I can teach you the skills for calming emotions, and parenting without putting your frustration and anger onto your children. Yes, this is entirely possible! Even in stressful times.
